a collage on the decline of small town America–how industrialization and the development of highways discarded these idyllic small towns in the name of advancement. i developed negative prints from vintage postcards dating back to 1907. most of these images are of Lima, Ohio–the postcards were a way to share the glory of the small town which boasted beautiful architecture and a streetcar system (uncommon in most cities nowadays.) the biblical statues and paintings are from Russian postcards that were used as correspondence between Ashkenazi families. many of these postcards contain messages on the back, such as: “No Sir, I did not take this picture myself.” long live small town America.
